Abstract

The study aims to analyze the results of the parliamentary elections in the State of Kuwait between 2008 and 2012 and to know the impact of tribal affiliation of voters on their choices during the voting process and the extent of the growing impact during the parliaments, and to study other factors that affect the choices of the tribal voter for the candidate. This study also attempts to shed light on the most important tribes that inhabit the Kuit and their numbers in each district, as well as shedding light on the historical political development that the tribes went through in Kuwait before the discovery of oil, up to the present time and how did the tribes interact with the election process? What is the form of political behavior that it has pursued?, The study also shed light on the Kuwaiti electoral law and the successive electoral districts divisions that passed through Kuwait. Therefore, the problem that the study tries to clarify revolves around the following question: To what extent do the tribal affiliations of voters affect the selection and identification of candidates? The following sub-questions arise from this question: How different are the choices of voters in areas close to the capital than in remote areas? Does the voter's educational level have anything to do with the degree to which he or she is influenced by tribal affiliations? Do individuals' tribal affiliations affect their party affiliations? What is the difference in the degree of tribal impact between males and females belonging to the tribe? Does the age of the voter have anything to do with the degree to which he or she is influenced by tribal affiliations? Does the level of income of the voter have anything to do with the degree to which he is affected by tribal affiliation? To what extent does a candidate's competence affect voters' choices? Has the strength of the influence of tribal affiliation declined in determining voter choices from 2008 to 2012?The importance of this study is highlighted in being the first study in the Gulf library in general and in the State of Kuwait in particular, which focuses on the phenomenon of tribal affiliation and its impact on voter attitudes, by analyzing the results reached by the ballot boxes in each region separately, to discover this phenomenon clearly and accurately, in addition to the scarcity of scientific research that deals with the results of the Kuwaiti parliamentary elections as a major topic. This study contributes to providing a modern scientific study that helps researchers and specialists to show the extent to which tribal affiliation affects the choices of voters in the State of Kuwait, and what are the other factors that may affect the determination of tribal voter choices.
