Monetary policy and inflation targeting in Egypt during the period from 2000-2015

Abstract

The central bank of Egypt announced in 2005, its intention to
implement inflation targeting as a monetary anchor, once the necessary
preconditions are fulfilled. After that, in 2017 the central bank applied the
policy.
The study aimed to explain the main causes of the high rates of
inflation in Egypt. Moreover, it reviewed the experiences of Brazil and
Turkey that already adopt the inflation targeting policy. Furthermore, it
evaluated the ability of Egypt to fulfill the preconditions for applying the
inflation targeting strategy. The paper concluded that, Egypt can successfully
adopt the inflation targeting regime.
