Competitiveness of the Egyptian economy during the period (2007/2008 - 2016/2017)

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the degree of competitiveness of the Egyptian economy during the period (2007/08 - 2016/2017), given that the
competitiveness of the state is one of the most important issues facing the country, whether it is a developing or developed country. Therefore, the
research problem revolves around several questions related to the situation analysis. Economic competitiveness of the Egyptian economy, with an
explanation of ways to improve competitiveness in the future. This was done by clarifying the concept of competitiveness and how to measure it, along
with presenting some of the most important economic literature reviews that dealt with the subject of the study, and then analyzing the competitiveness
data taking into consideration the indicators that have been presented. The study found that, in general, Egypt's competitiveness index values
deteriorated during the study period, which resulted in a decline in Egypt's ranking among countries according to the International Competitiveness
Index issued by the World Economic Forum, due to many problems in the performance of the labor market efficiency, the commodity market, and the
financial market development. This is despite the state’s implementation of
some reforms aimed at improving Egypt's ranking.
