The “social welfare” state model: a study of the problems and consequences

Abstract

Talking about the role of the state and the concept of social welfare for its citizens is the focus of the current controversy in light of the various global repercussions. The problematic of this controversy is almost determined by how to maintain the primary role of the state in protecting society with the change in the concepts of care and the decline in the role of the state and its neglect of performing some of its obligations towards its citizens, especially after the state of care in developed countries has been subjected to tensions and collapses.
The idea of ​​the social welfare state model was a reflection of a number of global variables, whether economic or political, which had repercussions on the application of the social welfare state model, including classical liberalism, coinciding with the emergence of socialist doctrines, the WWI, and the Great Depression during the 1930s, and WWII, the economic boom that followed the war, and then economic stagnation and restructuring during the 1970s and 1980s which posed a challenge to countries, especially with regard to their role in achieving the social welfare of their citizens.
This research is an attempt to identify several axes: first is the definition of the social welfare state model and integrate a number of indicators to reach a procedural definition about it. Second, it focuses on the global implications on the application of the social welfare state model in different periods of time, starting from 19th century to globalization and so on. Thus, research aims to investigate aspects of continuity and change related to the effectiveness of the social welfare state model, as well as the most important alternatives presented and prepared to increase the effectiveness of the model in the future Where "social justice" has become a demand and a challenge at the same time.
