The Lebanese crisis and the future of the army: scenarios of disintegration and politicization

Abstract

This study seeks to shed light on the inter-dimensional crisis facing the Lebanese state, where Lebanon suffers from a state of stagnation and political paralysis, with a significant deterioration in public services, and a huge collapse in the exchange rate, which made The World Bank describe the Lebanese crisis as one of the most severe Three crises worldwide since the mid-nineteenth century.
This crisis experienced by the Lebanese state, which made it live on the verge of collapse and failure, led to calls for handing over political authority to the military institution to save the situation from collapse, and to rebuild the Lebanese state. In this study, we try to verify the need for intervention by the Lebanese army to rebuild the Lebanese state, by evaluating the different dimensions of the Lebanese crisis and then identifying the extent to which the Lebanese army can play this role if it does, by exploring points The strength and weaknesses of the Lebanese army. Finally, the study examines the possible paths of the Lebanese crisis and its repercussions on the Lebanese army.
