Quality of field surveys: An evaluative study of field surveys of scientific theses in the Department of Public Administration at Cairo University during the period (1996-2020)

Abstract

Many Previous Studies, in the United States and a number of European Countries, have Raised Concerns Regarding the Level of Surveys Quality in Social Sciences, Especially Public Administration, and the Low Level of Surveys Quality of the Theses, where most of these Surveys have many Problems Related to Survey Design, Sampling Procedures, Data Collection Tools, and Analysis Methods. This no doubt, raises the Question about the Level of Surveys Quality of the Theses in Public Administration at Cairo University.

In this context, this study aims to assess the Quality of Surveys in 237 Theses, which were discussed in the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University (1996-2020). The Study has reached that, Low Percentage of Survey Quality of Theses in Public Administration, 58.7%. Most Surveys Suffer from Problems in Research design, Methodology of Questionnaire Design, Sampling Procedures, Methods of Data Analysis, and Presenting & Discussing Results. Based on the Study Results, the Researcher Suggested a Number of Recommendations that could contribute to improving the Survey Quality of Theses in the Department of Public Administration.
