Over the past decade, the Arab region has witnessed an unprecedented growth of internal armed conflicts, the negative consequences of which have not only been the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions, but also, some of these conflicts, which have turned into protracted civil wars, have threatened to dismantle many of the region's states, as some international and regional parties seek to take advantage of the persistence of those situations in their interests.
Therefore, the study seeks to address the concept of conflict and related concepts and highlight the most prominent contributions of various scientific projects defining civil wars and internal armed conflict. The study also attempts, on the basis that a proper diagnosis of the problem is the first step towards solving it, to address the most prominent theoretical trends presented in the interpretation of the phenomenon of internal armed conflicts which may help us to find out causes and factors behind that phenomenon in the Arab region and, thus, work on settlement and resolution of those conflicts.
