The role of the Jordanian Women's Union in empowering them

Abstract

      The study aims to review the role of the Jordanian Women's Union in the political empowerment of women in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and what are the most important obstacles to the political empowerment of Jordanian women, and what are the most important strengths that characterize the union. The study revolves around a research question: What is the role of the Jordanian Women's Union in the political empowerment of Jordanian women? A case study method is used. The study is a descriptive study using a social survey of a sample of managers and officials in the Jordanian Women's Union, and a sample of citizens who frequent the union. The sample size was (384) single, A questionnaire was designed to collect data. The results of the study showed that the Jordanian Women's Union has an important role in bringing about a positive change to enhance women's participation in the political field, as it motivated women to run for elections instead of voting, contributed to reducing the marginalization of women, and contributed to increasing the quota for women in parliament. The Federation also supported women in local and parliamentary elections and elections in general, and contributed to reducing the negative perception of women in holding political positions. One of the most important obstacles to the process of political empowerment of Jordanian women is the nature and culture of Jordanian society towards women's participation in the political field, and the lack of financial resources provided to the union by the state.
