Abstract

This study has explored the role of the French Yellow Vests Movement that started in 2018 as case study. The movement was organized by the lower – middle and lower classes as a result of the continuous escalation of fuel prices, and accordingly the introduction of new taxes, which was elaborated by the government as a serious step to confront the climate change. Consequently, the study had examined the various aspects of political change that the movement had achieved. The study had used the inductive method to observe the emergence of the movement, and to track its development through its different stages. The study had concluded that the Yellow Vests Movement played a key role in political change based on a set of internal and external determinants that could influence the scope of change, Furthermore, the yellow vests movement could be analyzed through several theories and approaches. The movement was inherently successful in accomplishing a set of social, economic, and political goals that were demanded since the beginning of the movement. This success is due the persistence of the movement’s members and the public support the movement had gained. Moreover, the movement had influenced the last presidential elections in France, as the candidates’ campaigns shows that they were highly affected by the movement.
