Abstract

The current study aims to examine the impact of two dimensions of economic development: foreign direct investment and the social welfare state model on the process of democratization in Singapore during the period (1981-2020). The study resorted to the mixed approach that combines the theoretical analytical method using the inductive approach, and the statistical analysis of time series data using the method of Ordinary Least Squares. The results confirm the absence of the impact of foreign direct investment, while social welfare policies have a positive impact of government spending on education, and inequality in income distribution, as well as it has a negative impact of government spending on housing programs on the process of democratization in Singapore.
