Abstract

The pace of violent conflicts in Africa has accelerated over the past two decades, which has generated special interest in the post-conflict phase as the decisive phase that either leads the country to achieve sustainable peace or relapses into a state of conflict again. Despite the male predominance of the various stages associated with the recovery of states, women have been able to play various roles in promoting peace, reconciliation, and reconstruction in Africa. In this context, the study seeks to determine the role of women in post-conflict recovery, bypassing the notion that women are only victims of conflicts but rather agents of change and partners in development. The study also adopts the comparative approach in studying the role of women in the experiences of recovery in Rwanda and Somalia.
