Abstract

The study focuses specifically on the relationship between theatrical literature and politics, not the relationship between theater and politics. It aims to identify political issues and messages in theatrical texts directed to the reader because it represents a preliminary step for the theatrical presentation directed to the spectator. The study attempts to monitor and analyze the relationship of theatrical literature to politics by shedding light on two plays from The most important theatrical works that were written in Egypt during the sixties of the twentieth century, and raised and raised several issues related to the ruler and the ruled, are the two plays (The Confused Sultan) by Tawfiq Al-Hakim and (Al-Farafir) by Youssef Idris, through which the theatrical text is read and what is (political) is determined. In it, analyze its content, and try to know the prevailing political situation in the writer’s era. Knowing the political and social context - which reflects reality and political and social transformations in a given period - determines the ability of these texts to discuss the issues that Egyptian society went through at that time. The political messages and political issues, concepts and values that were raised were also identified, which the writer tried to crystallize through his theatrical texts. In this context, the study showed that there is an interaction relationship between literature and politics. Theatrical literature affects society and is affected by it. Through the theatrical text, several political issues can be raised, whether they actually occur in reality, or they should not occur, or their occurrence must be prevented by one means or another, or it is expected to occur in the future, whether positively or negatively. On the other hand, theatrical literature in relation to politics affects political and social change in society by clarifying the problematic political issues presented to the ruler and forming political awareness among the public. The elements of politics addressed in the two plays were analyzed by highlighting the issues that relate to the ruler and the ruled, and the people and events that reflect those issues.
