Abstract

At a time when the world has not yet recovered from the social and economic repercussions of COVID-19, the Russian Ukrainian war poses another major threat causing a humanitarian crisis and economic shock. It causes enormous suffering and a bleak future for the 2030 Agenda, because of its negative political and economic effects at the international level and on global policies towards achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), especially with regard to the goal of achieving global food security. If the war worsens, the food crisis will worsen, posing a challenge to many countries that depend on food imports, such as those in the Middle East and North Africa region, which requires the adoption of urgent and long-term reforms and policies, to promote the transition towards healthy, fair and environmentally sustainable food systems. This, and noting the scarcity of writings that dealt with the impact of this war on the United Nations agenda in achieving the goals of sustainable development - until the time of writing this study - this study focuses on a major question that revolves around what are the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war on global policies towards achieving the goals of sustainable development 2030, especially those related to a number of goals represented in: poverty and hunger, health and education, gender equality, decent work, economic growth and energy, and protecting the rights of children and women. It is also interested in analyzing the repercussions of this war on global policies in advancing sustainable development goals around the world, especially those related to achieving the aforementioned goals. Moreover, the study is concerned with examining the mechanisms that enable stakeholders to help engage in the process of supporting the SDGs at such a time as this.
