Abstract

The study is concerned with analyzing the blue economy in terms of its importance and contribution to the sector. In addition, the study is concerned with measuring the relationship between the blue economy and food security in Egypt, through a statistical model that describes the relationship between the basic variables on the growth of the blue economy and knowing the degree of impact of these variables on food security in Egypt in a way that serves the study's objective. The study concluded that x3 has a significant effect on the dependent variable y at a significance level of 0.635, which means that there is a direct relationship between the self-sufficiency rate of fish in Egypt and food security. This is consistent with the expectations of economic theory. While x1 has no significant effect on the dependent variable y, at a significance level of 0.05. This means that there is an inverse relationship between the total exports of Egyptian fish and food security. This is contrary to the expectations of economic theory. We conclude from this that although the increase in fish exports leads to attracting more hard currency, it causes a shortage in its supply in the local market, which leads to an increase in its prices, and thus exacerbates food insecurity. Based on the results of the study, we recommend achieving high self-sufficiency rates in fish wealth, as this contributes to reducing fish prices and increases citizens’ ability to access fish, thus ensuring Egyptian food security.
