Security threats and their repercussions on the stability of Latin American countries

Abstract

This study aimed to shed light on the reality of the security situation in the Latin American region. Although Latin America is relatively peaceful in terms of relations between states, it is one of the most violent regions in the world, facing a range of non-military security threats, chief among them organized crime, international terrorism, epidemic threats, and other threats. The study then focuses on studying the nature of the security threats facing the Latin American countries, the most important economic, social, and political repercussions of these threats on the region, and the most prominent confrontation mechanisms that countries have followed in addressing these threats. And then to determine the nature of the security threats facing Latin American countries, and to what extent the concept of human security represents an appropriate tool for understanding and analyzing the security situation in the Latin American region. The study includes three sections, the first section deals with transnational organized crime in Latin America, the second topic focuses on international terrorism in Latin America, and finally the third section discusses the epidemiological threats in Latin America.
